Books I am reading

The Nasty Bits by Anthony Bourdain
This is a collection of articles and essays by the Indiana Jones of the culinary world. As usual, his observations are as sharp and shiny as the cook’s knife, his stories as infused with flavour as double-boiled herbal chicken broth and his penchant for deriving extraordinary experiences out of the ordinary, equal to a masterful chef creating a veritable smorgasbord out of everyday ingredients from the neighbourhood grocery store.

JPod by Douglas Coupland
A thoroughly enjoyable book, its dysfunctional characters in surrealistic situations are lovingly fleshed out, including a cameo by Douglas Coupland himself. Hilarious and highly recommended.

Full Circle by Michael Palin
Follow the adventures of Michael Palin as he traverses the pacific rim, which brings him from the Bering Strait, through Asia via Japan, China, Indonesia before crossing the Australian outback, across the Pacific Ocean, and then up the South American coast all the way back up to Alaska in North America.

Hard-boiled Wonderland and the End of the World by Haruki Murakami
I just bought this book at Borders and have yet to read it. According to blurb on the back of the book, “A narrative particle-accelerator that zooms between Wild Turkey Whiskey and Bob Dylan, unicorn skulls and voracious librarians, John Coltrane and Lord Jim.” Now how can I not buy the book after reading that.

Tales from Nowhere by various authors
A collection of short travel journals by some 20 - 30 travel writers including such luminaries as Pico Iyer and Tim Cahill, I will get round to reading this book soon. But looks great…can’t wait.
