The Dark Knight Breaks Box Office Record

As expected, The Dark Knight smashes the box office making over US$18 million from one night’s midnight shows. This breaks the previous record held by Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith. This was no doubt helped by the Heath Ledger posthumous oscar buzz for his highly praised performance as The Joker.

Now all eyes are on whether The Dark Knight, the second installment of director Christopher Nolan’s Batman movies will break the opening day record of $59.84 million and the all-time best opening weekend record of $151.11 million - both held by Spider-Man 3.

Meanwhile, Christian Bale has agreed to star in The Dark Knight sequel - the 3rd Batman movie provided director Christopher Nolan is on board. He tells GQ Magazine, “I would certainly hope (Nolan) would be on board for a third installment of Batman. If he wasn’t I’d have to think long and hard about whether I’d want to continue myself.”

If you’ve yet to catch The Dark Knight, watch out for the ending where it tells of how Two Face got his scars.
