Oprah Sued By Alleged Extortionist For $180 Million

A man is suing Oprah Winfrey for giving false statements that he had tried to extort money from the talkshow queen that led to his arrest. Keifer Bonvillain was charged with recording phone conversations he had with Oprah’s Harpo Productions employee saying that he would write a book based on dirt he dug up on Oprah Winfrey unless he was paid off.
He was wired $3,000 with another $1.5 million promised and when he showed up to collect rest of the money, he was arrested. Charges were dropped when he agreed to perform 50 hours of community service, pay $3,000 in restitution and undergo drug testing in order to avoid jail time.
Now he is seeking $180 million in damages, saying that Winfrey’s allegations severely damaged his reputation.
