Dirt On Sarah Palin: Over $150,000 Spent On Clothes

Sarah Palin - John McCain

The Republican Party has spent $150,000 on Sarah Palin’s clothes in their makeover bid to help her play the part of vice-presidential candidate. According to this report, more than $75,000 was spent in a single shopping spree during September at Neiman Marcus in Minneapolis, and another $9,500 at Macy’s in preparation for John McCain introducing Sarah Palin as his running mate.

Her husband Todd, was also in for some grooming as another $5,000 was spent at Atelier, a classy men’s boutique. Later that month, $50,000 was spent in forays into Saks Fifth Avenue in New York and St Louis, on a procession of neat little waisted jackets, pencil skirts in which Sarah Palin is now mostly seen.

The Republican Party has tried to downplay whether such huge sums were necessary to re-package Sarah Palin for the campaign. A party spokeswoman, Tracey Schmitt said, “With all of the important issues facing the country right now, it’s remarkable that we’re spending time talking about pantsuits and blouses. It was always the intent that the clothing go to a charitable purpose after the campaign.”

I wouldn’t call that a comeback statement, more like a side-step statement.
