2009 Movies To Look Out For

Watchmen

It’s looking really exciting for movies in 2009. There are the usual sequels from profitable movie franchises of course, but look out for some edgey movies and some blockbusters that try to add some edginess to them as well. Bear in mind that this is a highly personal selection, so don’t expect to see Hannah Montana listed here.

Terminator Salvation
The fourth part of the excellent Terminator series, but admit it, none will ever beat the first and original movie that made Arrrnald a household name and his famous catchphrase, “I’ll be BAK”. Starring, well whaddaya know, Batman himself, Christian Bale. The new Terminator series – yes a new franchise is already in place, much like how Batman did – is based on a grown-up John Connor roaming post–Judgment Day.

Terminator Salvation

Watchmen
Based on the hugely successful graphic novel by Alan Moore, the Watchmen Official Movie Trailer looks amazing and I, as well as millions of fans can’t wait to catch it. However things are looking bleak for fans as 20th Century Fox has sued Warner Bros for the movie’s rights. NY Times is reporting that the trial may be pushed back till next year, which could delay the film all the way till 2010. Noooooo……

Wolverine

X-Men Origins: Wolverine
This promises to be a hit for the role that made Hugh Jackman a star in the original X-Men movies. It traces how Logan’s macho rivalry with Sabretooth, his thwarted love affair with Silver Fox set the stage for his transformation into Wolverine.

Inglourious Basterds
No, the title is not a typo. Quentin Tarantino has dictated that his latest 1970s era inspired WWII film be spelled thus. Even being a long time Tarantino fan, I’m getting a little sick of him getting fuller of himself while producing movies crappier than the previous. But let’s give him the benefit of the doubt and see how this one goes. Stars the strange mix of Brad Pitt and Mike Myers.

Avatar
Aliens director James Cameron’s first movie in 10 years, this hi-tech sci-fi movie about humanoid remote drones exploring an alien planet.
