US Airplane Crash In Hudson River: All Safe

US Airways

A US Airways plane Flight 1549 crashed into the Hudson River after geese flew into its engines just after take off from LaGuardia Airport bound for Charlotte, N.C. The pilot managed to guide the plane into the frigid Hudson with all 155 passengers hauled to safety by Coast Guard vessels and ferries. Passengers waited for rescue in knee-deep water standing on the wing of the plane. One person suffered two broken legs but there were no other serious injuries.

New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg praised the pilot saying, “It would appear that he did a masterful job. Basically, the people who went to the hospital were very few and in stable condition.” Bloomberg added that there was “absolutely no indication” of terrorism, and the crash was “nothing other than an accident that might have had to do with both engines.” A full investigation into the incident will take place over the next few months.
