Michael Phelps Apologizes For Smoking Pot
2008 Olympics golden boy Michael Phelps has apologized for his behaviour after a picture of him smoking a cannabis pipe was leaked by celebrity gossip rag News Of The World. He issued this carefully worded statement:
“I engaged in behavior which was regrettable and demonstrated bad judgment. I’m 23 years old and despite the successes I’ve had in the pool, I acted in a youthful and inappropriate way, not in a manner people have come to expect from me. For this, I am sorry. I promise my fans and the public it will not happen again.”

He puffed from the bong during two days of partying with students at University Of South Carolina in Columbia by showing up unannounced at a house party last November, a quiet time in the swimming calendar when athletes would not expect to get tested for drugs.
A source said he was visiting Jordan Matthews, a girl he was secretly seeing who was a student there “but ended up just getting wasted every night.”
“You could tell Michael had smoked before. He grabbed the bong and a lighter and knew exactly what to do. He looked just as natural with a bong in his hands as he does swimming in the pool,” the source added, “…he was loud, obnoxious and slamming beers from the get-go…he couldn’t get enough of all the attention.”
It remains to be seen if his sponsers will have a change of heart after this.
