Nip/Tuck butchered

One of the most hip shows on TV right now has had some interesting developments. I’m surprised this third season is even shown at all, until I realised that up to a full 10 minutes of various scenes in the episodes ‘Momma Boone’ and ‘Derek, Alex and Gary’ have been completely cut. In fact, I doubt there is a single episode that has been left intact. Given season 4’s gay storyline, I think I will go ahead and pre-order the DVDs.

After seeing the two surgeons in their fancy cars and apartments for two seasons, they are now in financial direstraits after bad publicity generated by Christian’s arrest as ‘The Carver’. Although he was cleared later, the series of unfortunate events have led to a breakdown of the business and business partnership. Weaving in between this story arc, are characters with interesting stories who come in for plastic surgery.

The “Momma Boone” episode is based on the true story of a 480lb woman in Florida who died after emergency workers attempted to separate her from her couch on which she had lived for the past 6 years. In “Rhea Reynolds”, we have the heartbreaking story of an old woman who wants to change her appearance to look like her picture so that her husband with Alzheimers could remember who she was.

And as if the stories are not compelling enough, we are treated to realistic scenes of plastic surgery procedures. Liposuction and facial reconstruction procedures are lovingly given close-ups along with very tasteful music to which the surgeons perform surgery.
