Pan’s Labyrinth up for 6 Oscars

The Oscar nominations are out and I am pleased to note that with the exception of Best Supporting Actress, Dreamgirls is not in any main category. Pan’s Labyrinth is running for 6 categories:
Best Foreign Language Film of the Year
Best Writing, Screenplay Written Directly for the Screen
Best Achievement in Cinematography
Best Achievement in Art Direction
Best Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures, Original Score
Best Achievement in Makeup
El Laberinto del Fauno should win Best Film, Screenplay, Cinematography, Art Direction and Music. Who are the other nominees and who will win? Let me take out my throw darts and have a go at them:
Best Picture: Babel although Letters from Iwo Jima might put up a good fight, since it seems like the type of film that typically wins. The Departed? What’s it doing there anyway. I don’t like copycats since I saw the original HK film Internal Affairs. Little Miss Sunshine is fab but no Best Picture candidate - it’s too simple, not enough drama. Oscar winners are always heavy on drama. The Queen is a foreign film. As long as Dreamgirls is not in, I’m fine.
Best Actor: Forest Whitaker based on his Golden Globe win. In anycase, I couldn’t care less who wins.
Best Actress: Her Majesty, Helen Mirren. Only Dame Judi Dench can usurp her throne.
Best Supporting Actor: that African guy - the most drama heavy role.
Best Supporting Actress: Abigail Breslin. I want her to win but I think Cate Blanchett will. I hope Jennifer Hudson doesn’t win. She will become too big for her boots with BOTH a Golden Globe and an Oscar.
Best Directing: Babel. Don’t really care.
