YouTube to pay users

YouTube has announced that it will pay users of the video-sharing website. Details of amount to be paid and how it works have not been revealed but the system will be introduced within months.

This could be the end of YouTube as we know it. With the pay-users model, it can be safely assumed that no copyright videos will be allowed. Currently, a large majority of videos uploaded are movies, TV shows and copyright material. Although YouTube has already started deleting many of such videos, users are uploading them faster than they can be deleted and there is still the lively community based around sharing movies and TV shows not available in some countries which grew YouTube into the behemoth it is today.

To take this away would signal its death knell. That would be a sad day for the millions who have depended on YouTube as the source for all videos, both currently and non-current, although drastic changes have been expected ever since Google bought YouTube. Google wouldn’t just let the daily millions of eyeballs go to waste with a few ads that no one even notices, let alone click on them.

Although many other video sites have since sprung up, none has come close to YouTube in terms of number of videos and users. Maybe someone will be courageous enough to take over the void when the day comes that YouTube is no longer the mothership of all videos.
