Who can park on double-yellow lines

traffic.jpg

SBS traffic wardens that’s who. Regular folks who park their vehicles on double-yellow lines get fined. SBS traffic wardens can not only park their motorbikes on double-yellow lines, they can go get themselves a delicious breakfast without any fear of being booked, since they themselves are the “bookers”.

The man who video-captured the two traffic wardens having breakfast while their bikes were sitting by roadside on double-yellow lines was booked by them for stopping his car by the side of the road with his wife sitting inside.

Understandably peeved, the man confronted the two traffic wardens who were surprisingly meek while the man questioned them about their actions. Aren’t mobile phones grand and isn’t YouTube the best thing since sliced bread? I want to upgrade my mobile phone to one which has a higher definition video capability.

Will the relevant authorities comment on this, and will the two traffic wardens be reprimanded?

well reprimanded yes, for being rude but do u expect them to park normally, considering their line of work being so dangerous?

i mean lets be honest if u see a traffic warden bike in the carpark area would u cheat or maybe not put a coupon… the answer would be no

from the traffic warden view would u park there in a place where u can’t see and the chance of getting ‘bookings’ decreases and the chance of getting ur bike vandalised or hacked is high?

its 2 sides to a coin…. from my view the man is wrong [refer to me webbie?]

I think the point of contention here is that the traffic wardens were not on duty when their bikes were parked on the yellow line – they were having breakfast.

And that they parked by the side of the road to keep an eye on their bikes so that they won’t get vandalised…hmm…somehow I don’t really see that as a valid point. The traffic wardens weren’t rude, were they? They were just inarticulate.

Shouldn’t the law be followed to the letter, rather than be flouted by those who enforce them? Regardless of whether or not traffic wardens do get their bikes vandalized (which is in itself a conjecture), they are slacking off on the job that they have been paid for, and disregarding their duties in public view.

It’s just ironic that they chose to book the man in the video and then park (assuming it’s the same car in the video) directly in front of him. Sounds like a clear cut case of abuse of power, unless it’s in their mandate to eat on the job. Mind you, this isn’t a quick lunch break – it’s breakfast; to be eaten in the morning before leaving for work. I doubt companis make provisions for their employees who skip breakfast, though (maybe, possibly, rarely, who knows?) they MIGHT given concessions for lunch breaks.
