Matt Giraud “My Funny Valentine” MP3 Video

Matt Giraud sang “My Funny Valentine” for American Idol Top 5 Rat Pack week. It’s a great song that’s been sung by hundreds of people, including recent American Idol contestant Melinda Doolittle whose version remains unsurpassed.
This week’s mentor is the strange choice of actor and rapper wannabe Jamie Foxx. Matt Giraud does a rather meh version of “My Funny Valentine”.
Randy Jackson says, “It was a little bit pitchy…it didn’t quite all come together for me”. Kara DioGuardi says, “I didn’t feel you were emotionally connected to it.” Paula Abdul says, “I like that you lowered the key…pure simple, emotionally expressive.” Simon Cowell’s hearing is busted tonight – he likes it, saying, “It was the only believable, authentic song I heard tonight…I heard some Nat King Cole kind of phrasing there.” This is only the second time I disagree with Simon, the first was when he hated Adam Lambert’s version of “Ring Of Fire.”

Of course to the untrained ear it was a so-so version. But he took jazz in university which must’ve been so elitist to the country music loving massess. Boo hoo. “We don’t get jazz!” Talladega Nights, anyone? Simon Cowell loves jazz and therefore had an educated opinion.
