Actor David Carradine, 72, star of the popular 1970s TV series “Kung Fu” has been found dead in hanging from a rope in the closet of a luxury Bangkok hotel.

“We can confirm that Mr. Carradine passed away in Bangkok today,” a US embassy official told AFP. “He was found in his hotel room in Bangkok but the cause of death has not yet been established,” the official said.

A Thai police officer Pirom Janthapirom however told AFP, “We suspect that he committed suicide by hanging himself,” adding that security cameras showed no one else going in or out of Carradine’s room.

“We found his body hanging in the wardrobe of his hotel room at around 11:30 am (0430 GMT) with a rope around his neck.” Police are investigating where the rope came from as it does not seem to come from the hotel.

“There is no trace of fighting in the hotel room and the room was locked from inside,” he said, adding “there is no sign of bruising on his body.” His personal belongings are also “intact.”

According to his personal manager Chuck Binder, David Carradine was in Thailand filming his latest film Stretch.

Carradine played Kwai Chang Caine in the TV series “Kung Fu” and played titular villain Bill in Quentin Tarantino’s “Kill Bill” movies.

He was the son of prominent actor John Carradine and part of an acting family that includes brothers Keith Carradine and Robert Carradine.
