This is the most awaited blockbuster movie of the year IMHO, even more so than Spiderman 3. Why? Because Pirates 2 ended on a cliffhanger. Captain Jack Sparrow was last seen swallowed by Davy Crockett’s squid monster and the best part – Captain Barbossa lives! Or maybe that’s his walking corpse, you never know with these fantasy movies. Anything is possible.
An extra brownie point is the appearance of Chow Yun-Fatt as a ganglord who bellows “Welcome to Singapore!”. We got quite a few chuckles at the trailers. It seems Pirates scriptwriters have an affinity to Singapore which also received mention in Pirates 1 although I didn’t get the reference when Jack Sparrow says “Obviously, you haven’t been to Singapore.” Anyone who knows what that’s about kindly enlighten me.
