No tears for Melinda Doolittle, the best vocalist on American Idol. As Paula Abdul so rightly puts it, it’s time for her to go on and have a great career. Many are saying America is not ready for 2 black girls in the finals and things might have turned out differently if she were white. So, sorry Obama, you might as well put the millions for your campaign to better use.
I think that though vocally, Blake Lewis is not that strong, his unique beatboxing makes him interesting and I can’t wait to see what he will be doing for the finals. Jordin Sparks, on the other hand, I think there will be no surprises – she’ll probably be doing diva-esque songs by Whitney Houston and the like.
Comparing Jordin Sparks with Melinda Doolittle, Jordin has a definite appeal to the younger set, although Melinda is a far better singer. You can see Simon Cowell reacting to the announcement that Melinda was going home. Pretty much like how I felt. But America has always sent the best singers on American Idol home.
I hope Blake Lewis wins just because he’s so much more an interesting singer than Jordin Sparks.

I found melinda’s exit shocking and as a result would not be watching the finals. i can’t believe she was voted off because she had the most experienced voice and has the capabilities of having a very long music career. don’t tell me there is a black and white issue here now that we are inthe millenium, is it time people get over this race issue. i found blake to be quite a bore and please stop comparng him to justin timberlake(there is no comparison any where. amaricans please vote right next time. melinda is definitely going to have a great music career and i wish her all the best. please don’t let amarican idol cause a rift between the british and amaricans, i think iraq war is enough.
Loved Melinda Doolittle, she was a cut above the rest of the pack … her exit proved that American Idol is definitely NOT about good singing. Blake was unique and interesting, and with experience will become a force to reckon with in the music world. Jordin has a powerful voice and loads of charisma, but …. idol?
American Idol is definitely not JUST about good singing. Jordin’s youthful and bubbly qualities appealed to the younger set who are the ones more likely to vote many times. Anyway the title doesn’t really mean much in terms of future success in the music industry.
