Ricky Gervais Lousy Golden Globes Host

Birtish funny man and creator of The Office, Ricky Gervais hosted the recent 67th Golden Globes Awards and his Brit wit didn’t live up to expectations. He also didn’t keep his promise to his Golden Globes bosses to keep away from controversial jokes about fellow celebrities, many of whom were present in the audience.
Among the stars whom Ricky Gervais took a swipe at were Mel Gibson for his drink driving and Sir Paul McCartney for his costly divorce from Heather Mills. Other celebrities who attended the awards were not spared either.
“Just looking at all the faces here reminds me of the great work that’s been done this year… by cosmetic surgeons. You all look great,” he told the star-studded audience, “Actors aren’t just loved here in Hollywood, they’re loved the world over because they’re recognisable. You can be in the Third World and you get a glimpse of a Hollywood star and it makes you feel better. You can be a little child, a little Asian child, with no possessions, no money – but you see a picture of Angelina Jolie and you think, Mummy!”
Thankfully, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie skipped the event.
However Ricky Gervais did not insult everyone, he did heap praise on one person – himself. He plugged the DVDs for his show, The Office urging viewers to watch the original British version rather than the American spin-off which stars Steve Carrell.
