Teenage Girls Knock Avatar From Top Spot

The highest grossing movie of all time, Avatar has been knocked off its number one box office place by a little known, cheesy teenage romantic film, Dear John.
Starring Amanda Seyfried (Mama Mia) and Channing Tatum (G.I. Joe: The Rise Of Cobra) as war-torn lovers, Dear John garnered an audience that was 84 percent female and 64 percent below the age of 21. Never underestimate the power of teenage girls – look at The Twilight Saga: New Moon.
Here are the box-office takings for the weekend:
“Dear John” ($32.4m)
“Avatar” ($23.6m)
“From Paris with Love” ($8.1m)
“Edge of Darkness” ($7.0m)
“The Tooth Fairy” ($6.5m)
“When in Rome” ($5.5m)
“Book of Eli” ($4.8m)
