American Idol 7 Carly Smithson

This American Idol season has its own controversies just like any other season. Sometimes I wonder if the producers do it on purpose to maintain viewership especially now that this is Season 7 and people are getting a little blase about American Idol.

The American Idol Season 7 controversy revolves around Carly Smithson. Unless you’ve been living under a rock or totally blacked out news on American Idol, you would know that Carly Smithson had recorded a CD “Ultimate High” using the name Carly Hennessy under the MCA label which has since been absorbed by Geffen Records.

On American Idol, Carly Smithson said that her record label “imploded”. Actually it was her debut CD that imploded, selling just under 400 units despite a $2million marketing campaign.

Already, many people have dusted off their old Carly Hennessy CDs which they got at the 2002 office Christmas party during gift exchange and put them up for sale on Amazon.com.:D So at least Carly Smithson will sell a couple more hundred copies with her appearance in American Idol.
