M. Night Shyamalan’s latest movie The Happening is getting many bad movie reviews not just from movie critics but everyday Joes. Here are some comments about this apocalyptic thriller.

“When a movie’s best bit arrives during the closing credits, we’re all in trouble.”

“A better title for M. Night Shyamalan’s The Happening would be Nonsense. It’s like an amusement park ride that has no reason for being - and no meaning - besides visceral excitation. Only difference is that The Happening isn’t fun.”

“The true disaster on display in The Happening is Shyamalan’s career hitting rock bottom.”

“Other than its ripe possibility for mockery, I cannot think of anything that makes the film really worthwhile.”

Think I’ll be skipping this one.

Angelina Jolie Movie “Wanted” - The Matrix Ripoff

June 20th, 2008 emigre Posted in Movies No Comments »

The new movie Wanted starring Angelina Jolie has been called a ripoff of the ground-breaking action movie The Matrix. Based on a comic book, Wanted also has 360 degree special effects first pioneered in The Matrix and the protagonist, played by James McAvoy, is similar to The Matrix. According to the movie’s official synopsis, Wanted “tells the tale of one apathetic nobody’s transformation into an unparalleled enforcer of justice”.

If the movie trailer is anything to go by, Wanted looks like fun!

Wanted is directed by the same Russian director who did the rather interesting Day Watch: Things I Learnt From The Movie Day Watch.

Fantasy film The Chronicles Of Narnia: Prince Caspian has knocked Iron Man off the top spot at its debut weekend, with $55 million in ticket sales. However, this is still disappointing when compared to its predecessor, “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe,” which sold $65.6 million in North America in its debut weekend in December 2005. But Disney expects the PG-rated movie, based on the C.S. Lewis fantasy series, to ride high through the coming Memorial Day weekend where The Chronicles Of Narnia: Prince Caspian will go head to head with Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull.

A third Narnia movie, “”The Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader,” is set for release in the summer of 2010.

It seems the negative online buzz for Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull was greatly exaggerated. Audiences at Cannes at its Sunday night premiere gave it a 3.5 minute standing ovation. According to Variety, the Indiana Jones movie made 19 years after the last one, received a “reaction of respect given to a film, appreciation for the film’s craftsmanship and its nostalgic sensibility and style.” Although hardcore critics were not as enthusiatic, Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull did not receive the brickbats that “The DiVinci Code” got.
