The divalicious Danny Noreiga sings Softcell’s monster hit from the 80’s “Tainted Love” that was recently remixed into Rihanna’s hit “SOS”. What great songs from the 80s, this week’s theme on American Idol Top 16 Performers Show. So far, I’m liking all of Danny Noreiga’s song choices. Simon Cowell hated it. Here’s a rare instance where I disagree with Simon.

Excellent song choice from Michael Johns for his American Idol Top 16 Performers Show. Michael Johns sings “Don’t You Forget About Me” by Simple Minds. I think he’ll around for quite awhile – probably make it into the Top 12.

On the American Idol Top 16 Performers Show, dark horse Jason Castro does an amazing job singing Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah”. Looks like he really paid attention to what the judges had to say about his song choice last week.

This season of American Idol seems to have more than its fair share of scandals. After scandals involving Carly Smithson’s previous $2million record deal with now defunct MCA, Amanda Overmyer’s DUI arrest, now comes the lastest American Idol scandal involving latino David Hernandez.

According to an Associated Press report here, David Hernandez once worked as a male stripper at Dick’s Cabaret, appearing fully nude and performing lap dances for the club’s “mostly male” clientele, club manager Gordy Bryan said Monday.

“He had the look and the type that people like, so he made pretty good money here,” Bryan said.

Will this get David Hernandez disqualified? Hope not, he’s a good singer and besides, some people really have to do what they can to make a living, so let’s not judge.

UPDATE: David Archuleta’s dad banned from backstage.

During American Idol first round auditions, David Archuleta impresses the judges with his rendition of “Waiting for the World to Change”. It doesn’t seem that impressive to me.

David Archuleta won Star Search when he was 12. He joined American Idol as soon as he turned 16 – the minimum age requirement. He just turned 17 last December.
