American Idol Season 9 Top 8 Guys

It’s the guys turn in the American Idol Season 9 Top 8 guys performance.

Lee Dewyze – Fireflies by Owl City
What a strange song choice that makes it all the harder for people to connect with the performance. Very generic borderline ok comments from the judges. Kara says, “You look confident tonight, there’s a star bubbling…you made the song better.” Simon says there’s nothing to rave about but that he’ll make it to the Top 12, “I’ve seen the progress over three weeks…I think you are better than that version of the song.”

Alex Lambert – Trouble by Ray Lamontagne
He has a distinctive voice and does a decent performance with a brave song choice. Randy says it was a good song choice but he wasn’t jumping up and down. Ellen says, “You are becoming a mushy banana! You are consistently getting better and better and better.” Simon says, “You are so still concentrating on trying to deliver the performance…you have to imagine Randy in a bikini..you’ve got to stop staring down that lens…you’ve got a really distinct voice.”

Tim Urban – Hallelujah by Tim Buckley
The only reason he’s still in the competition is because of all the 12 year old girls voting for him. The judges are encouraging him with Ellen even running up to hug him. Kara says, “And now, I think you’re kind of in it. That was an honest interpretation, you showed it.” Simon says, “I kind of feel responsible for you doing well tonight. Very very smart with that song…not the best version I’ve ever heard, but the strongest performance I’ve ever heard from you.”

Andrew Garcia – Genie In A Bottle by Christina Aguilera
You can tell Andrew is desperately trying to top his “Straight Up” performance but it seems he’s peaked and can’t quite match up to that anymore. Randy says, “…a little pitchy all over the place, it had no range to it.” Ellen says, “I thought it was a great song choice, it was what you needed to do.” Kara says, “You peaked so early, and you’ve been chasing that ever since, you were fighting with the rhythm of the song.” Simon says, “For me, it really came over…it was a little bit desperate, you over thought it…you’re kind of still going backwards at the moment.”

Casey James – You’ll Think of Me by Keith Urban
All the judges like it, saying he can sing. Randy suggested Casey to do a Stevie Ray Vaughn song. Kara says, “I’m kinda back on the Casey train..it was honest, doing what you do best…I’m missing that spark, but a move in the right direction.” Simon says, “I would say it was your second best, it made you sincere, but we won’t be raving about it in 24 hours, but you sounded great.”

Aaron Kelly – I’m Already There
Why is this guy still in the competition? Oh, that’s right, everyone else sucks too. Randy says, “You got the makings of a great singer…you should work on the lower notes…a job well done, more work to do.” Ellen says, “I think you’ve sounded better, it was a little too much song for you.” Kara says, “it’s not relevant to your life.” – meaning it didn’t fit his age. Simon strangely liked it, “It’s a beautiful song…it’s not a great vocal, it had emotion.”

Todrick Hall – Somebody to Love by Queen
At least he picked an interesting song, unlike the others but unfortunately didn’t quite deliver but Randy is impressed, “Todrick is back..dude you proved that you can really sing…one of the best vocals I’ve heard by a man.” Ellen says, “You are a brave young man…you made it like a gospel song, you did a good job.” Kara says, “It was really good singing, I didn’t know whether to love it or laugh at it….but the singing was good.” Simon said, “It was good in parts…but you are a Broadway singer…I see you more than that than a recording star.”

Mike Lynche – This Woman’s Work by Maxwell
Ok, this guy turns out to be the underdog with the bite but he doesn’t have star quality. Randy says, “…this is crazy…it was dope….the last note…that was hot.” Ellen says, “OMG, that was so beautiful. You are the one to beat now.” Kara is crying, maybe because finally someone doesn’t suck? “…I’ve never cried after hearing someone like that…it’s amazing. It’s so relevant for you and I can feel it.” Simon says, “…it was a very difficult song to sing and you 100% nailed it. Not just the best performance of the night, it’s the best performance we’ve had in all these live shows so far.”

American Idol Season 9 Top 8 Girls

American Idol 9 Top 12 Girls

The American Idol Season 9 Top 8 girls is the most critical preliminary round as this decides who gets into the official Top 12. Strange then, many girls picked poor songs that made them sound karaoke instead of being contenders.

Katie Stevens – Breakaway by Kelly Clarkson
So ho hum I switched over to watch a far more riveting programme on killer hippos. Randy says, “It paled into comparison..like karaoke. Didn’t work for me.” Ellen says, “I didn’t feel those words…I didn’t see personality.” Kara says, “don’t think you know who you are yet as an artist….you do have that talent…you need that experience.” Simon says, “I think this has been very confusing for you…I think your issue is, you haven’t worked out the kind of artist you are…you kind of sucked the energy out of it..I got to give you 10 out of 10 for trying.” VIDEO

Siobhan Magnus – House of the Rising Sun by The Animals
Rather liked her version though not ground breaking but her performance managed to hold my attention. Randy and Ellen loved it. Kara says, “I loved the acapella vibe at the front…you are so unique and different…I really liked it tonight.” Simon however didn’t like it, “I wasn’t quite a fan of that…it was all a bit weird…because you didn’t do anything with the song…there was no moment..ploddy, boring and dark…didn’t get it.” VIDEO

Lacey Brown – The Story by Belinda Carlisle
Pretty boring song but she does a decent job. Randy says, “A little sleepy, but your best performance in a long time…very cool.” Ellen says, “I agree with Randy, sounds like something that was written for you…distinctive..really good” Kara says, “Performances like this are why you got here…this is the kind of record you need to be doing.” Simon says, “I didn’t love the song, but you sang it really well…like listening to something on the radio…still haven’t heard the right song connection.” VIDEO

Katelyn Epperly – I Feel the Earth Move by Carole King
The moment I heard her song choice, I knew it was going to be disaster – and it was. Randy says, “I just didn’t feel the right connection…it felt very put on…a little boring.” Ellen says, “I don’t know that was the song to choose to wow people with. It just wasn’t enough.” Kara says, “I didn’t feel like you were competing on that stage…I just felt like you weren’t even playing…what happened?” Simon liked her hair but says, “It was kind of like request night on a Friday night at a restaurant….other people look like they are trying harder.” VIDEO

Didi Benami – Rhiannon by Fleetwood Mac
She manages to bring something new to the song and all the judges loved it although it wasn’t a “wow” performance for Randy. Kara says, “One of my favorite moments in the show so far this season…sometimes you can surprise us by what you bring to the song….one of my favorite moments.” Simon says, “I have to agree with Kara…it did have a wow moment…it was the whole performance.” VIDEO

Paige Miles – Smile by Charlie Chaplin
This girl is gone – she should have gone 2 weeks ago. Randy says, “That’s one of my fav songs…it just didn’t work…it just went completely flat.” Ellen says, “That song was supposed to be uplifting, but it was just sad and heavy…this is the time to shine….it’s the wrong song.” Kara says, “It was all wrong, tonight was not the night to do that.” Simon says, “It was just a horrible choice of song…the arrangement was awful…you had so much potential…you have no idea who you are as an artist. This could be the end of the road.” VIDEO

Crystal Bowersox – Give Me One Reason by Tracy Chapman
This girl is a contender, she gives a good, not great version of the song on the electric guitar. If the judges didn’t praise her, there would be no one left to praise. Randy says, “This is what this show’s about for me…I’m a fan…that was hot.” Ellen says, “I need new adjectives for you..best performance of the night.” Kara says she can see the kind of record Crystal will make. Simon says, “This is what we mean when” Simon says, “You are one million billion percent going to be in the Top 12 next week. You’ve got confidence…you are the one everyone has to beat. It’s yours to lose.” VIDEO

Lilly Scott – I Fall to Pieces by Patsy Cline
She’s the strongest competitor against Crystal and it would be good to see them without their guitars for some of their performances. The judges all liked it. Simon says, “I think you’re very brave choosing that song…that didn’t have the wow factor…cute quirky…that could have been a risky thing to do.” VIDEO

Hollywood celebrity gossip news rumors

King of Bad Taste, radio DJ Howard Stern is trying to drum up some interest since he’s fallen off the grid recently and nothing stirs the pot more than making discriminatory remarks.

He spoke about Oscar nominee Gabourey Sibide on his radio show, “There’s the most enormous, fat black chick I’ve ever seen.

She is enormous. Everyone’s pretending she’s a part of show business and she’s never going to be in another movie,” he said.

“She should have gotten the Best Actress award because she’s never going to have another shot. What movie is she gonna be in?”

He also commented on Oprah Winfrey, who introduced Gabourey Sidibe during the Best Actress segment of the 2010 Oscars, “Oprah’s another liar, a filthy liar,” said Stern.

“She’s telling an enormous woman the size of a planet that she’s going to have a career.”
